- Can someone help me with my new un-branded modem? I bought the
- modem here in the UK from a reputable supplier. The handbook
- leaves a little to be desired -- the illustration of the card
- is different to what is physically plugged into the PC. I am
- providing as much information as possible in the hope that
- someone may recognise this modem and explain how it should
- be configured.
-
- Using the AT interrogate command I obtain the following:
-
- ati0 28800
- ati1 000
- ati2 OK
- ati3 Copyright (c) 1996 SSC, V2.2 B02 - 01/02/96
- ati4 PARALLEL-16550 * EXT-HYB * V34 * V42bis * TIES *
- CLASS1 FAX * CLASS2 FAX VOICE * SPEAKERPHONE
- ati5 OK
- ati6 Copyright (c) 1996 SSC, V2.2 B02 - 01/02/96
- ati7 28800
- ati8 000
-
- The specification supplied in the handbook reads:
-
- Modulation Standard: V.34, V.32terbo, V.32bis, V.32, V.29, V.27,
- V.23, V.22bis, V.ss, V.21, V.17, Bell212/103
- Compression: V.42bis, MNP Class5
- Error Correction: V.42, MNP Classes 2-4
- Host Interface: ISA 8 bit bus
- COM Ports: 1,2,3,4
- IRQ Lines: 2,3,4,5 (6 and 7 for plug and play model)
- FAX Group: Group III
- FAX Command: Class 1 and Class 2
- VOICE Command: AT&T Voice Command Set
- Transmit level: -12dBm +/1 1dB
- Sensitivity: -43dBm
- UART: 16550 compatible

- On the back of the modem are two RJ-11's and two 3.5mm jack sockets.
- A patch lead was supplied to connect from one RJ-11 to a BT socket.
- The other RJ-11 is for a telephone handset to plug into. The two
- jack sockets are marked ear and mic.
-
- The software provided with the modem is Cheyenne's Bitware for
- Windows 3.1 version 3.30.06 V/F/D.
-
- A few questions:
-
- 1) Which chip set is inside?
- 2) How should the modem be configured?
- 3) What are the interface details of the two 3.5mm jacks?
- 4) Is the modem also a sound card?
- 5) Where, in the UK, can male RJ-11 to female "BT" adapters
- be obtained?
- 6) How much would a modem of a similar specification retail
- for in the US?
